Purpose /Goal:
In the rising tide of the opioid epidemic, the bittersweet result has been an increase in organs. This webinar will discuss the OPO’s perspective on donor acceptance from opioid related deaths as well as the transplant center’s experience in accepting these organs. Topics will include donor consent, recipient education, organ acceptance practices and clinical protocols for managing risk of infection.
Target Audience:
Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:
  • Describe the current national environment on the opioid epidemic
  • Identify issues and barriers with donor and organ acceptance with opioid-related deaths.
  • Explain strategies to assist in to managing opioid-related donors and organs.
