Purpose/Goal:

Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires all participating providers and suppliers to plan adequately for natural and man-made disasters and to coordinate with federal, state, tribal, regional, and local emergency preparedness systems. This requirement includes organ procurement organizations (OPOs) and transplant programs as contingency plans must be in place to ensure continuity of services. During this webinar, we will hear about the experiences of three OPOs whose service areas faced catastrophic events within the last few years. Based on their experiences, we will learn about the steps they’ve taken to meet the new regulatory requirements and, more importantly, the practical lessons they’ve absorbed that can be shared as pearls of wisdom for all other organizations as they do their best to prepare for the unexpected.

Target Audience:
Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the CMS requirements for emergency preparedness and how that looks in practice.
  • Describe what one must anticipate in an emergency.
  • List 3 proactive key action items to ensure readiness for emergency.
