From cancer, traumatic injuries, to congenital anomalies, patients who experienced significant pelvic and genitourinary tissue loss may benefit from a penile transplantation. This type of transplantation is referred to as a genitourinary vascularized composite allograft (GUVCA) transplant and helps to accomplish three main goals: a) reconstruction of external genitalia, b) re-establishment of urinary function, and c) potential restoration of active sexual function. During this webinar we will discuss the clinical indications, patient selection, and surgical procedure, the ethical issues connected to GUVCA, and the psychological considerations with this procedure.

Target Audience:
Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • List the goals of penile transplantation.
  • Identify the patient selection criteria and indications.
  • Discuss the psychological considerations with penile transplantation.
  • Examine the ethical issues and challenges related to GUVCA.
