For many transplant professionals, one of the most intimidating aspects of a challenging donor process is the communication with the Coroner/Medical Examiner. During this webinar we will learn from representatives from across the country, who will share their donation-positive practices. The Chief Medical Examiner for the Georgia Bureau of Investigations will be sharing his forensic perspectives on donation and the evolution of his support for even the toughest of cases. A sergeant of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Division in Central California will walk us through a pediatric trauma case resulting in four life-saving transplants. And the webinar will be concluded by learning about the impact on the donation mission with an OPO’s in-house coroner liaison model.

Target Audience:
Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Identify best practices in building coroner/medical examiner relationships.
  • Infer forensic perspectives on release of organs for transplant on complex donors.
  • Analyze alternative staffing models for C/ME support and development
