This webinar will provide a review of HIV and the implications, both pre and post-transplant, for recipients. During the webinar, we will discuss the testing required to medically clear a recipient for transplant and provide rationale. A review of HIV-to-HIV transplant from past to present will be reviewed including the HOPE Act and conclude with the possibilities of HIV transplantation in the future.

Target Audience:
Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the implications of HIV as it pertains to a recipient during the phases of transplantation.
  • Identify testing necessary for recipient to complete prior to transplant.
  • Describe the hurdles encountered with the HOPE Act and discuss how the challenges were navigated.
