The Littlest Donors: Honoring the Gift of Life through Neonatal Donation

Purpose/Goal:

Neonatal donation provides a unique opportunity for parents who receive a devastating medical diagnosis that their baby will not survive or have a meaningful quality of life. This course will focus on the collaborative opportunities that hospitals and Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) have to steward the gift of life through the donation of neonatal organs, tissue and eyes for transplant and medical research/therapies. Ultimately, providing grieving families with hope and a sense of purpose amid a heartbreaking tragedy.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the process for identifying and evaluating neonatal donation opportunities.
  • Identify the best practices for collaboration between the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) and its hospital partners to offer neonatal donation opportunities to potential donor families.
  • Describe the impact of neonatal donation on the families and communities served.

Target Audience:
Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.
