Detecting Rejection Without Biopsies: Are We There Yet?

When:
Tuesday, January 22, 2019
3:00-4:00pm EST/ 12:00pm - 1:00pm PST

Purpose/Goal:
For many years, the Gold Standard for detecting rejection in transplant recipients of solid organs has been a tissue biopsy of the transplanted organ. Given that this is an invasive procedure, there are significant associated risks to the organ and the recipient patient. The search for another reliable method of detecting rejection has been ongoing for many years. Recent advances in the field provide promise that blood tests using DNA technology may finally result in a reliable alternative to traditional biopsies. During this webinar, two clinical experts, one in kidney transplantation and one in heart transplantation, present scientific and clinical data to support the use of this alternative technique.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Identify outcomes of DART and CARGO studies used to determine rejection through blood tests.
  • Evaluate reports on the validity of blood tests used to detect rejection following heart or kidney transplantation
  • Discuss contraindications for use of biomarkers to detect rejection.

Moderator/Speakers:

  • Daniel C. Brennan, MD, FACP
  • Jeff Teuteberg, MD
  • Linda Ohler, MSN, RN, CCTC, FAAN, FAST (Moderator)
